Believe in Magic? Jupiter in the 12th House

by Aliza

That I was walking down the street not soooo far from where I live, and it was like a scene in a Yiddish short story.

A visibly Jewish man -- which is an odd phrase but sometimes I bow to contemporary convention -- was sitting on a folding chair outside a row house, and I walked right by him in my jeans and headphones (too casual to enter a holy place, so I felt) -- and then I turned back around.

"There's a Chabad House here, right?" He nodded. Right next door. He invited me in.

"Is it good?" I asked. He laughed, telling me he was the rabbi. He asked my name. First name. Last name. Where I lived (not far). He even tried to remember my Gmail. The spelling of my first name. I wonder if he'll remember, but it hardly matters. I'll be back next week when I'm less sticky, drenched with sweat after walking, easily, two miles in ninety-three degrees.

Long story short: I made a short visit inside, unable to decline the offer of a/c and cold seltzer on this hot hot day, and there was cake if I wanted or needed. Next week. I'll be back next week.

And so it begins.

Just the other day I was thinking to myself: Will this Jupiter 12th transit have me returning to Jewish traditional observance? The last time Jupiter was in Leo I also underwent a spiritual transformation but of a different sort.

Those were dark days. I don't like to think about them.

This morning though when I went to walk I wasn't looking for anything in particular but a good walk in the morning heat, and I found... more.

And so it begins?

Although I often grapple with growing older and rage against aging and think of Dylan Thomas often -- Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day -- life is better now in so many ways. Not that the transits aren't always looming, threatening, squeaking their anxious songs...

These days, Jupiter (luck/blessing) is getting along with Mars and Uranus (sudden/breakthrough) and getting along with Saturn (earth) and Neptune (heaven). The harmony in this sky is unparalleled. IT'S THE PERFECT SOIL.

So. Let me ask you this: Do you believe in magic?

To be continued...
